Jan Claire

Jan Claire joined the U. S. Navy immediately after High School where he served as a Communications Technician in Turkey and Washington, DC. It was there he developed an appreciation for computers and how they could operate things efficiently. Over the next 22 years, he was in the broadcasting business enjoying a career as a disc jockey and in management at stations in Istanbul, Turkey, Washington, DC, and Chico, California. He also served as Marketing Director of Pacific Northwest Broadcasting, Inc., a chain of stations in the northwest states.

In 1984 Jan left the broadcasting biz and was involved with the gymnastics competitions at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, after which he spent 10 years as national membership director of the US Gymnastics Federation in Indianapolis and announced or produced virtually all the televised gymnastics events in the USA.

Following his long-time interest in computing, he left the Federation in 1994 and joined News Corporation and its on-line service, Delphi, in Boston and was shortly thereafter transferred to News Corporation's headquarters in New York City where he was Senior Project Manager of a multi-million dollar Internet-based global on-line service called iGuide.

In 1996, Jan and his wife Kathleen retired and moved to Oakhurst, California near Yosemite National Park where he intended to continue his 45 year painting hobby. Nearly immediately after moving to Oakhurst, he was tapped by Eastern Madera County telephone and communications company, Sierra Tel Communications Group, to help build up its new Internet service, Sierra Tel Internet and today is "Webmaster" of STI.

He still enjoys painting, however, and is a member of Timberline Gallery on "Gallery Row" in Oakhurst, and gives frequent painting demonstrations, teaches, and paints in his home studio.
