Gail Morrison

10/14/98 - Gail Morrison Smith writes a great letter! And sends pictures too!

I didn't actually graduate from M-A as I got sent to Castilleja in the middle of my junior year (hence the cute little picture in the middy blouse). However, in previous years it didn't seem to matter; some of you may remember that I worked on previous reunion committees (we had almost $1200. left over from those reunions which I sent to Peggy). Thanks to Peggy and Jan for the TONS of work that they have done for this occasion.

After high school, I graduated from San Jose State in Medical Technology and went to work in the laboratory of El Camino Hospital (Mountain View). We moved down here soon after and have lived in this same house since 1964. Wow, how did all that time go by? 3 kids, same spouse, Larry Smith, graduated in 1957 from M-A. In 1980 I went back to school and ended up as a loan officer at Bank of America. Strange progression of jobs but it suits me as I am interested in finance and money management which is part of what I did at the bank. Retired in 1991 as the bank merged with First Interstate.

I wanted to give something back to the community then and started volunteering at the battered women's agency. I have done many different jobs since then and learned a lot about battered women. I have always had liberal views on life and politics and they got WAY MORE left as I have been at the Support Network.

We have started to travel as our children moved out. About 5 years ago we learned to windsurf which is now our favorite thing. We have windsurfed in a lot of interesting places including Bonaire and Aruba. We went on a walking tour of the Cotswalds (England) last year and a bicycle trip in Denmark. Denmark is not flat! The picture of me on the windsurf board (at right) was taken at San Luis Reservoir by Pacheco Pass. The other picture (me in the plaid blouse (below) is on a boat trip with (left to right) son Bob, his fiance, me, and Larry's Mom.

I don't remember a whole lot from high school. Maybe because it wasn't one of the best times in my life. Really looking forward to seeing everyone however; it amazes me how much we all have in common even if it didn't seem like it in the 1950s.

Cheerfully,
Gail Morrison Smith
